Re: Copyright Statement.
All, for a complete understanding of this, please read our statement at the time this rule was tweaked.
All, Given our association with the Redskins one thing that will be looked at more closely now than in the past is the posting of full text news articles where you do not have permission. Now that we are owned by a commercial business it is likely news organizations will no longer turn a blind eye to our capturing of their articles (their mistakes) as they had to in the past. We have already received specific contact on this matter by the USA Today and our buddies at the Washington Post. Copyright law is such that we -- owners and staffers -- of this site are not responsible for confirming each individual member has a legitimate ability to post copy protected material. In many cases the material is not copy protected at all. In other cases ALL material may be protected. We can not know and we are not able to confirm which are and which are not and whether you've received permission or whether you have not. In all cases, if we are notified by news organizations that a violation of their copyright happened here with the posting of full-text news articles, we will have to remove the full text portion of the post. You are responsible for the content you post. While this doesn't really have a great impact on us, we feel due to the increased attention this site brings on us that we have to provide you all with a heads up as to the possible action that can be taken against you -- as individuals -- by news organizations should they feel you have violated their copyright. We already know news organizations have people visiting here EVERY day gathering names of individuals who may violate their copyrights. Please be careful as to what you post to prevent any possible action taken against you. On our end we will edit violations reported to us and in extreme cases where a member has been contacted for obvious and repeated copyright infringement we could take more drastic moderating action to rectify the problem. What this all means is pretty simple. By default any full text posting from the Washington Post and the USA Today will be edited down and we will request you not make full text postings from those sites any more. All other posts are your responsibility. We will take no action at all unless contacted by the organization at which time we will simply request you no longer do so. Only if you ignore that request will any further actions be taken against you.
